Lessons from being car free

Tomorrow will mark a month car free.

Lesson 1) No matter what your buy-in-bulk urges tell you, it is OK to buy milk in smaller than gallon containers, especially if you have to carry it home on your back.

Lesson 2) If you don't have to find a parking spot, it is much easier to just wander into cool little stores that you used to drive by all the time.

Lesson 3) Everywhere in Atlanta takes about 60 minutes to get to on public transportation, no matter how far away it is.

Lesson 4) You can justify almost anything by saying, "well it's cheaper than a car"

Brilliant. I especially like lesson three though I would hazard to add "at least" to that assessment.

about the "buying in bulk thing". It's much, much, much, MUCH easier, rather than using a backpack, to use one of those little suitcases on wheels thing-a-majigies to haul loot heavy groceries back home when you have to walk a distance to get there.

lesson 4

...and what a true lesson it is!

how many other cool things would we do/support financially, if we weren't spending on car payments, gas, insurance, etc?

Not that I've gotten rid of my car yet, of course....
